Grounds
The Facilities Services Grounds Department is responsible for providing a campus that is safe, pleasant and supportive of academic pursuits. Grounds meets this mission by placing tables and benches, constructing sidewalks, building bike racks, removing litter, mowing lawns, repairing roads, maintaining parking lots, pruning shrubs, trimming trees and taking care of Lake Alice, and also providing campus irrigation and landscaping. Services provided include:
- Construction
- Equipment Maintenance
- Grounds Maintenance
- Heavy Equipment
- Irrigation
- Landscaping
- Street Sweeping
- Tree Care
The Grounds Department strives to enhance newer and historic campus buildings through landscaping, using native plants or non-native species where appropriate. As established landscapes become outgrown or damaged, the Grounds Department also works to heal and replace plants as needed. We provide seasonal color with the use of perennial flowers and flowers appropriate to their season in designated beds across campus.
Grounds is responsible for the health and safety of all campus trees. The goal of our urban forestry program is to continue diverse and healthy tree canopy. Trees are a significant feature of the University of Florida campus, define building exteriors, reduce energy consumption through natural cooling, provide food and shelter for wildlife, and more.
